In August 2014, East Anglian artists inspired by the work of Suffolk-based Edwardian painter Harry Becker are exhibiting their own highly individual work, with funds being raised for churches in Halesworth and Wenhaston – the home of Becker between 1913 and 1928. These artists are acknowledging the debt owed to a painter who died in poverty and whose work was forgotten for almost 70 years.
'Blyth Spirit – art inspired by Harry Becker' is a 60-page publication produced by Mascot Media for sale during and following the exhibition, featuring the artwork being exhibited and articles on/pictures by Harry Becker himself. The book, produced specifically to support the event, contrasts some of Becker’s memorable work with that of 28 regional artists, and tells a little of the extraordinary Becker story.
